'WELLIE' WALKS
This term Reception have spent time outside exploring and investigating.   Each week they all pull on their  wellies and go out into the garden, into the woods and onto the field to see what interesting things they can find.  One week they discovered 'what is under their feet'.  Izzie said they went over stones, grass, sand, sticks, soil, dead leaves and in water. Another week they felt  'textures in the garden' and Maddie said the stones felt rough, the grass was soft, the soil was sticky, water was wet and very cold and the leaves were crunchy.  Next they will be investigating and observing an area near their classroom.

They are in the process of designing a good garden to attract hedgehogs and birds.

CHICKEN RUN!

Reception class have been learning about chickens and they had a visit for the afternoon from a hen and her seven chicks.

We had to make a safe pen in the classroom so the chicks would not escape.

We put newspaper and straw in the pen to keep them clean and comfortable and we then put in a dish of corn for them to eat and a bowl of water for them to drink.

The mother hen and chicks talked to each other all the time!  We listened to the cheaping of the chicks and the different clucking noises of the hen.  Sometimes mum was very loud - this was to call the chicks to her to protect them if she thought they were in danger (this happened when we came close to the pen to look at them).

We sat quietly and watched the mother hen teach her chicks to scratch up the straw to look for food.  The chicks would run to her every time she scratched hoping that she had found something yummy for them to eat!

We loved our afternoon with the chicks.

HEALTHY EATING

In Reception we have been looking at healthy eating.  We have learnt that all foods are good foods, we just need to eat different amounts of them.

We have especially been looking at fruits and vegetables - and tasting them!  Lots of us discovered that we now like new fruits and vegetables.  Many fruits and vegetables are different colours - just like a rainbow.  We had red, yellow, orange, green and purple peppers for lunch!

We each have a Healthy Eating Passport - every time we eat a food that is red, yellow, orange, green or purple we put a sticker in our passport.

We are trying to eat a rainbow every day.

In Art we arranged fruit in a bowl and then we painted a picture of it using different sponges, not paintbrushes.  The fruit had to stack a certain way so it wouldn't fall over.

Eating lots of different foods is fun.

Do you think you can eat a rainbow every day?
