Creative Arts balances the strong academic emphasis in the school and allows those who may not be so academic to shine. Pupils have regularly attained scholarships in drama and music.
Music plays a very important and much loved role in the Granville daily life, whether it is impromptu performances by string quartets or a performance of the 1812 Overture by the full orchestra. Girls can join the choir, the junior or senior orchestra or recorder ensembles. They can take part in both formal and informal concerts and regional festivals. Specialist teaching is provided in many instruments, such as piano, violin, cello, oboe clarinet, flute and saxophone to name some. Girls take the Associated Board exams up to Grade V and pass with many merits and distinctions.
There is a strong tradition of high standards in Drama at The Granville. Drama is a vital part of the curriculum, whether it is supporting another subject or is being used to present highly entertaining assemblies by pupils at all ages. A specialist teacher takes all girls from Year 2 upwards and prepares them for the LAMDA exams in Prose and Verse Speaking.
Ballet is offered as an optional extra throughout the school from age 4 and exams are taken in thee Cecchetti Ballet grades.
Art, Design Technology and Pottery are all taught with the benefit of excellent specialist facilities and with specialist teachers for the most senior girls. The high standards of display around the school are testament to the value we place on the creative arts.
