JUNIOR CHRISTMAS PRODUCTION This year's Junior concert was filled with Christmas songs from Nursery, Transition, Reception, Years 1 and 2.
First to take the stage was Transition, looking so very endearing in their costumes. There was Father Christmas and his elf helpers and a horse to pull his sleigh!
After Transition had sang their Christmas songs, Nursery sang five Christmas songs of their own. Transition and Nursery then joined together to sing When Santa got stuck up the Chimney!; Away in a Manager and We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

Reception performed a Nativity play with Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus. There were kings, shepherds, angels and camels (including the very amusing 'Humph' the camel - an extremely grumpy camel who grunted 'humph' throughout the play until he eventually met with the baby Jesus and became a very happy camel no more to utter 'humph' again.
Years 1 and 2 sang a variety of songs from different countries which included: Spain - 'Life in Spain'; China - 'Chinese Springtime'; Austria - 'The Yodeller's Carol'; Greece - 'Tha Paro Mia Psarovarka'; Norway - 'There is a Light Shining'; Mexico - 'La Caravacha' and South Africa - 'E-Lah'.
This was followed by 'Happy Birthday Jesus' and 'Blow the Candles Out' with audience participation.

STIRRING THE PUDDING - November 2008
Is it really that time again? Time for the the annual 'stirring of the Christmas pudding'.
It is tradition for the whole school to join in the 'stirring of the pudding'. Led by Transition class the school spiral in hand-in-hand in class order. Last in are Year 6 and at this stage the 'royal party' (The King, Queen and her attendants (Year 6) and the cook and her assistant elf|) enter and parade around the hall and up onto the stage. With this year's Head of Sport (in a colourful hat), leading, the spiral is then reversed and the spiral unwinds up onto the stage and in turn, each person 'stirs the pudding'. Dancing and jumping to the tuneful words of 'we all stir the pudding' they come off the stage to form a second spiral. When everyone has 'stirred' and the second spiral has filled the hall, it is time for the 'royal party' to lead out of the hall. Transition follow the royal party and gradually the whole school exits the hall.
There was much fun and laughter and loud and hearty singing by all!

AUTUMN FESTIVAL - October 2008 Bright sunshine low in the sky, leaves changing colour and falling to the ground and reduced daylight hours - all signs that autumn has arrived. The Granville celebrate the arrival of autumn with a festival of poems and songs. The whole school take part. Nursery and Transition were first on stage and it really was a first for some of them as they made their debut on stage. Nursery sang two songs: 'Picking Apples' and Autumn Time is Here Again' and Transition recited a poem 'The Leaves are Green' and sang about 'Mr Scarecrow'. Reception recited a very amusing poem about Whiskey-Friskey the squirrel and showed off their squirrel tails made with autumn leaves! They sang a song about 'Spiky, Spiny Hedgehog'. Class 1 sang 'The Fruit Song' and recited 'Leaves of Autumn. The Seniors followed Class 1 and sang a very meaningful song called 'Share it Around'; reminding us that some people do not have so much and we sometimes take for granted what we have . Harvest is a time for sharing. Next Class 2 took the stage and sang 'Thank you for our Food' and recited 'Wind Ways'.
Everyone sang together 'Cauliflowers Fluffy' and 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' and Mrs Scott closed with a prayer of thanks.

THE GRANVILLE SUMMER CONCERT The Summer Concert was indeed a celebration of the talents and skills of our young performers. The programme was wide and varied The orchestra played a German waltz, a Polka, 'Can you Feel the Love Tonight' from The Lion King, Purcell's 'Rigadoon' and 'Sazzaroorah'. There were piano, flute and cello duets, violin solos and recorder groups playing a variety of jazz, blues and traditional pieces by different composers. The choir excelled singing a variety of songs including 'Yellow Submarine', 'Colours of the Wind', 'I have Music', 'A Tall Story' and 'Mi Caballo Blanco'.
Everyone performed to a very high standard to an extremely appreciative audience. Our thanks go to Mrs Holt our Music Teacher for all her hard work in arranging such a splendid concert.

SPRING FESTIVAL - March 2008 The walls of the hall were adorned with giant spring pictures created by each class. The hall had been decorated by parents with Spring flowers and foliage. The girls wore chaplets of flowers in their hair and the boys wore buttonholes; the lingering fragrance of the flowers filled the room.
It was the Granville Spring Festival and the arrival of Spring was celebrated with songs of new life and those telling the story of the crucifixition and resurruction of Jesus Christ. Parents, staff and guests listened to songs such as 'The King of Love my Shepherd is', 'The Easter Story, Full of Joy and Exultation,' 'In a Troubled World,' and 'Were you there when they Crucified my Lord'.
The Spring Festival was a fitting way to end the term and to begin the Easter holiday.

STORYTELLER & WORLD BOOK DAY - February/March 2008 Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll tell you a story..........
That's what happended at The Granville on Tuesday 26th February as a precursor to World Book Day - the Storytellers arrived.
Tony Edwards and his troupe told stories of magic and wonder all day - starting with Nursery class and ending with Years 5 and 6.
Absolutely everyone who listened to the music, interwoven with the tales, was transfixed.
World Book Day for the UK was on Thursday 6th March but because of a clash of events, The Granville celebrated on Wednesday 5th March.
World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of books and reading. The main aim of World Book Day is to promote books and reading and encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have fun. We at The Granville had great fun and each child and member of staff selected their favourite book character and dressed up as that character.
Prizes of large Easter eggs were awarded to each class. Judging was extremely difficult as there were so many superb costumes. Congratulations to everyone for making such a tremendous effort. Some of our winners are pictured below.

GRANVILLE CHOIR VISITS SEVENOAKS SCHOOL February 08 We are always glad to receive our invitation to the Sevenoaks School Concert for Prep and Primary schools and this year was no exception!
The choir, made up of girls from Years 5 and 6, set off on the coach and arrived at the Aisher Hall to find a buzz of excitement. There were eight schools attending and we quickly realised that our audience was several hundred strong!
The programmes were distributed and we discovered that we were billed to sing first. Initially this seemed rather daunting, but in fact it turned out to be very pleasant as we were able to get the nervous part over quickly and relax and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
I am of course biased (!), but I thought our choir was brilliant and they really looked as though they were enjoying themselves. They sang a beautiful Spanish folk song called 'Mi Caballo Blanco'. Our second song was a fun one with a twist at the end, called 'A Tall Story'.
The other schools treated us to orchestral items, recorder ensembles and large and small choral groups sang to us. Sevenoaks Junior Singers concluded the programme with some songs from their recent production of 'Joseph' and it was super to see some ex-Granville girls enjoying their music-making.
We returned to school in time for orchestra rehearsal. Well done to our hard-working girls for not complaining that we had to rush back and therefore miss tea at Sevenoaks!

THE GRANVILLE BECOMES AN ECO SCHOOL ! Our school has been given a Bronze award to recognise achievement in working towards a sustainable lifestyle.
Thanks go to the children, staff and parents for helping us to win this award. We have been saving stamps, growing organically and generally saving energy in and around the school as well as recycling paper, cardboard and printer cartridges.
We are now working towards the silver award and if there are any parents who think they may have something to offer our new 'eco-warriors' in terms of ideas or practical help, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please speak to Mrs Cording.
