KENT SCHOOL ANNUAL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS - June 2008

15 girls from The Granville took part in the tennis tournament held at Bromley Tennis Centre.

Amanda, Ellie K, Cathrine and Josephine were in the Mini-Green group. Cathrine and Josephine played a very convincing game and won their group matches but were eventually knocked out in the quarter finals. Amanda and Ellie (see photo) played exceptionally well and won every match they played.  They went on to win the final in straight sets and were crowned Kent Doubles Champions and presented with winners medals. This was quite an achievement especially considering Ellie is only 9 playing against 11 year olds!

In the Mini-Orange group, Georgina, Eloise, Camilla, Francesca, Daniela and Clare W, all played very well.  Eloise and Georgina made it to the quarter final after winning all their group matches.

In the Mini-Red group, Ellen, Emily B, Phoebe, Emily and Olivia all played extremely well.  Ellen and Emily had a very close match but sadly were knocked out in the semi-final.

KENT IAPS ROUNDERS - JUNE 2008
The Granville team won their group matches and made it to the semi finals where unfortunately they were knocked out.  Nonetheless, they were delighted to receive medals for their achievement.

IAPS KENT TENNIS TOURNAMENT - JUNE 2008
Well done to Cathrine and Josephine who came third overall in the IAPS Kent Tennis Tournament.  They played very well throughout the tournament and the result was an exceptionally good achievement as other competitors were two years older.  In their final game they were losing both sets 0 - 3, but with great determination they fought their way back to win.

UNDER 9 NETBALL FESTIVAL - February 2008
We entered three teams in the Festival this year and invited five other teams from Combe Bank, Kent College and Russell House.

The tournament started at 2.30pm and with great excitement the girls took their positions on court and the first match began.  The A team warmed up very quickly and beat Combe Bank 4 - 0.  It was a brilliant start and gave our girls confidence for their next match against Kent College.  This was a close game with both sides missing scoring opportunities and the match could have gone either way.  However, luck was on our side and we were delighted with a 3 - 2 win.  Our final match was against Russell House and we played some excellent netball with both shooters on target with every shot.  The game ended with a fabulous 10 - 0 win.

The two other Granville teams also played very well.  The Green Team had a hesitant start against Combe Bank and lost 1 - 0.  They missed a few opportunities at goal which eventually cost them the title and they had to be content with runners up.  The Red Team lost to both Combe Bank and Granville Green Team but they did manage to hold on to a draw against Kent College, giving them third place overall.

With maximum points for 17 goals and only 2 against, our A team scooped the winners medals.  Mrs Evans presented the medals at the match tea.

An exciting and enjoyable afternoon for both players and spectators and a big thank you to all the mums who provided such a delicious tea.  Thanks also go to Mrs Cummins and Mrs Holland for organising the tournament.
