Early Years (Age 3-4)

Early Years (Age 3-4)

This is an outstanding setting, providing a stimulating, happy atmosphere where children’s natural curiosity, confidence and creativity are nurtured.”
Ofsted 2011

The Granville pupils begin their school life in our Kindergarten classes, where boys and girls together benefit from individual teaching in a happy and inspiring environment.  Qualified and experienced staff provide a caring, well organised and stimulating atmosphere where children’s natural curiosity is nurtured and encouraged. This enables them to develop more formal skills as they approach their Reception class. The emphasis is on delivering a balanced curriculum which is based on that set out in the government’s Early Years Foundation Stage. Children thrive though teaching which encourages and recognises their achievements.

“Provision is outstanding.  Children benefit greatly from the stimulating classrooms and free-flow access to the outside area.  The balance of purposeful, child-initiated play and structured adult-initiated activities is excellent, with carefully planned activities reflecting children’s individual needs and interest.”

Literacy and Numeracy are incorporated in play based activities supported by a wealth of resources, including the use of computers, iPads and the interactive whiteboard.

Creativity is nurtured through a variety of  art and craft activities. Specialist teachers encourage the development of the children’s musical and ballet talents.

Woods 022

The children’s knowledge and understanding of the world is developed through the use of our woodland grounds and by walks in the local environment. Visits are also taken to local venues including Zizzis, Coolings and Godstone Farm.

French is introduced in small group teaching through songs, games and rhymes. Social skills are fostered through activities which promote emotional, moral and spiritual development.

Physical development is encouraged by the use of the lovely adventure playground, a wide variety of outside toys, as well as by the specialist teaching received in our gym and swimming pool.

Our Kindergarten children are housed in a new purpose-built block which opened in 2014. Outside facilities include a field, safely fenced playgrounds complete with sandpit, tricycles, coloured climbing frames, slides and a climbing wall. They also have access to all of the School’s specialist teaching rooms, including the Junior Library, French Room and IT Suite.
