The Friends of Granville (FOG), the school’s parents’ association, hold fund-raising events to foster social contact and to raise funds for educational and sporting equipment that is outside the resources provided by the school. In recent years FOG has raised funds for iPads, digital information screens and the school mini bus.
For FOG it is the beginning of new events and opportunities to bring smiles to all the children– and hopefully parents’ – faces! We have two main fundraising events before July, firstly in March, our Horse Race evening which we anticipate will be a hugely popular, fun night out and a great opportunity to catch up with friends over some fish and chips, a glass or two of wine, and some spirited betting. Tickets will be on sale soon! Secondly, of course, the highly anticipated Fete! No doubt many of you are starting to plan for this, and on behalf of FOG, we would like to thank you in advance for all your efforts and time. Whilst in the early stages of planning it can at times feel a bit onerous, it is always well worth the effort, with the children buzzing for weeks before and after the event. The number of Year 7 and 8 ‘old girls’ who return for the day, is testament to this! Please get in touch with us if you have any questions.
There have been a number of items purchased on behalf of FOG, and donated to the school, with your generous support. We have had loads of fun, met many fabulous, creative and hardworking mums and dad’s, and experienced some real highs! The 2016/2017 FOG committee has been amazing – full of energy and enthusiasm, and many other parents have helped out along the way also. Thank you! It is however our feeling that FOG needs a new insertion of ideas and would benefit from a breath of fresh air! The current team – Cath Daniell (Chairperson), Anna Jansen (Events Manager), Emma Dowell (Treasurer) and Helen Branch (Secretary) will therefore all be standing down at the end of this academic year, so that a new team can pick up where we have left off and continue to move FOG forwards.
For FOG to continue to function, and for all our children to continue to benefit from FOG events, we need all four
positions to be filled. We are therefore looking for a volunteer for each of the following roles:
Ultimately, we would be thrilled for these positions to be confirmed earlier, rather than later in the year, so that we can ensure a smooth and easy hand over. So – if you, or a small group of you, have always wanted to be part of the team, and to help raise funds for the school whilst also benefiting from the social and personal aspects of being part of the FOG committee – please get in touch with us. The roles are not onerous, and there is a lot of fun to be had!
Towards the end of the Summer term, the Chair of FOG gives a speech highlighting the great FOG events of the year and to thank the people who have made them happen.
A Welcome Drinks Party is held at the beginning of the academic year to introduce new parents and staff to the school. The highlight of the year is the Founder’s Day Fête held in May to celebrate the birthday of the school. In addition there is a Christmas Fair, a bi-annual summer ball and various other fund-raising and social events. In recent years this has included a wine tasting evening, a quiz evening and a race evening.

FOG is organised by a committee made up of form representatives from each class. Parents are encouraged to join the committee. It is not too time consuming; it is an excellent way to meet other parents and a very rewarding way to become involved in the school. A list of committee members and class representatives is displayed in the school entrance outside the school office.
