The Year 3 and Year 4 cross country team travelled to Hilden Grange to compete over a 1.2km course. The conditions were good and the girls enjoyed racing over a relatively flat course.
The Year 3’s were up first, all of the team got off to a good start staying in the middle of the leading group. For some of the race the runners go out of sight so we had to wait for the final 400m before we knew what kind of positions they were in. Our first runner back was Emma then closely followed by Olivia. The whole team finished in the top 24 placing, which was fantastic because there were lots of competitors. These results would set us up nicely to compete for the overall team winners.
After watching how well the Year 3’s had done the Year 4’s stepped up to the start line, the Year4’s had run this course last year and had won overall team so they were really keen to get underway. As usual the start was really quick, Jasmine was at the front along with another four runners. Again we had to wait for the runners to come back into view. When the runners came back Jasmine was in second place being chased down by the 3rd runner, with lots of encouragement from spectators and The Granville team, Jasmine began to close down the leading runner. Gradually she got closer and closer then picked the pace up and passed her with ease. The last part of the race Jasmine sprinted to the line finishing at least 50m in front of the second placed runner. This is Jasmine’s fourth win of the season. The whole team had fantastic placings with 4 of our runners finishing in the top 10.
When the team placings were read out the Year 3’s were pipped to the post by Saint Ronan’s, finishing runners up by two points. The Year 4’s were crowed champions for the second year running beating the second placed school by 12 points.
Great running girls!
