On Friday The Granville cross country team went off to Sevenoaks Prep for the first race of the season. This was the first time the Year 4’s had experienced an event such as this. The course was tough, with inclines which lead the runners into Knole Park, but luckily the course was dry!
First off were the U9’s, as they stepped up to the line there were some nerves, but mainly excitement. The girls’ plan was to sprint off the line and get in the leading pack, which they did. In fact one girl did this so well she was leading the race. During the first part of the race they could been seen but as they moved through some wooded area we lost sight of them. We had to wait about eight minutes or so before the leading runner comes back into view. a Granville girl was still leading! As The Granville spectators cheered her on she was moving further and further away from the girl placed in 2nd. An outstanding run by The Granville Cross Country Team finishing 1st, 7th and 12th out of one hundred runners.
Then U11’s had a longer course, having walked the course earlier the girls thought about their strategies. Again we had some fantastic results with the team taking 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th.
The team did really well finishing 2nd overall in both age groups. The whole team contributed to The Granville’s final score with all our runners finishing in the top half of both races.
Well done team!
