Three girls from Granville qualified for the IAPS National Swimming Finals which were held in the magnificent K2 centre at Crawley. Over 2,600 female swimmers took part in the regional rounds throughout the country. The best 16 swimmers for each individual event were invited to the national finals. In the U11 50m freestyle, Zoe N-P was seeded first after all the regional times had been collated, so the pressure was on to perform well in the heats on finals day. She led from the dive, and achieved a personal best time of 30.56s to easily win her heat. From a good lane position, she also dominated the national final, and her superiority was never in doubt. A time of 30.60s in the final assured her of a Gold medal.
Sasha K and Maddy G also qualified for the finals. Sasha achieved a 4th place and a personal best time of 41.10s in the U11 50m heats, and was 5th in the final. Maddy Glen was 3rd in the U10 25m freestyle heat with a PB of 15.94s. She finished in a creditable 10th place in the competition.
These three girls are joined by Maddie W and represent the South-East division as fastest qualifiers for the U11 100m Freestyle relay at the English Schools Swimming Association National Finals in Sheffield in June.
