National Swimming Relay Finals

National Swimming Relay Finals

Zoe N-P, Sasha K, Maddie W and Maddy G – What a delight it was to see these girls develop over the past few months into a formidable freestyle relay team!

Kent Primary Schools Preliminary Round

Their journey together started in February when they were selected (as the fastest four freestylers in the school) to swim for The Granville in the Kent Primary Schools preliminary round. They were 1st out of 25 teams, with a time of 1m 06.38, so were invited to swim in the Kent finals.

Kent Finals

In the Kent finals, they improved their time to swim 1m 05.93 to pick up Silver medals.

South East Divisional Championships

The top two schools represented Kent in the South East Divisional championships in Guildford, and in the heats got another PB with 1m 03.03 to secure a win, and a place in the final. In an exciting race, we were head to head with Guildford High, but were awarded 1st place on the touch. This meant that we were invited to Sheffield for the English Schools National Relay Championships – How exciting!

English Schools National Relay Championships

The top 3 teams from the eight divisions competed in three heats. The girls were 2nd in their heat, and had to wait to see which teams had got the fastest 8 times to qualify for the BIG final. Yes! We had made it with a stunning time of 1m 00.13, another PB by over 3 seconds! Despite a valiant effort, The Granville were 8th in the final race. Eighth in the country is brilliant!

There were 48 counties represented, and also London and all it’s boroughs. Mrs Harman estimated that over a thousand teams may have entered the preliminary events, so girls, you have been FANTASTIC!

A big thank you to Mrs King for her coaching, Mrs Naylor-Perrot for her media and photography skills, and to the parents for all the tremendous support.
