Granville’s Spring Festival is perhaps one of the highlights of the School’s year. All the girls wear chaplets of fresh flowers on their heads and the Great Hall is decorated with flowers by the mothers.
All classes sing a song and say a piece of poetry or prose to do with Easter or Spring.
Year 6 girls perform a speaking or singing account of the Easter Story. They also compose Spring songs for the younger girls.
Here is Lucy’s report on Spring Festival 2014:
“On the 26th March 2014, The Granville School performed the annual Spring Festival. All classes took part- from Nursery and Transition to Year 6.
The Festival began with ‘Lord of the Dance’, which was sung by the Senior School (Year 3 to Year 6).
Years 3 and 4 then sat down, letting the Senior Choir (Years 5 and 6) sing one of their two songs – ‘ For the Beauty of the Earth’ which was sung in two parts, followed by Year 5 sitting down, thus letting Year 6 tell the Easter Story. They sung two songs during their recount, called ‘Eastertide’ and ‘When I think about the cross’. Next Year 5 stood up and sung a very energetic song called ‘Joy is come’. Following that, each of the classes (excluding Year 6) sang their songs and chanted their poems.
We then all sang ‘Hosanna’ and left the hall in twos, leaving the stage ready for the Junior School. After the Juniors had finished, the Seniors walked into the hall singing ‘Walk in the Light’. We then finished with a prayer and a song called ‘Easter Jubilation’.”
