Tag Rugby

Tag Rugby

Year 6 and Year 5 braved the cold weather on Thursday to have a Tag Rugby session run by Sevenoaks Rugby Club. For most girls this was their first ever experience of the game, this did not stop the girls enthusiasm and involvement in all the fun.

Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting form of non-contact rugby suitable for all ages and abilities. There are no scrums or line-outs and tackling is not allowed. The object of the game is to score tries. The player in possession of the ball (attacker) may run or pass the ball to achieve this, but is not allowed to kick it. The ball may only be passed either sideways or backwards and not forwards. It is the object of the team without the ball (defensive team) to prevent progress of the attacking team by removing a tag (ribbon) from the ball carrier.

Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting game:-

  • It shows clearly when a tackle is made.
  • It allows players to easily officiate their own games.
  • It gives a real incentive for defenders to defend.
  • It momentarily takes the ‘tackler’ out of the game as would happen in
full contact rugby, allowing more time and space for the attacking

Tag Rugby will be starting up for Year 3 -Year 6 after half term on a
Monday 3.50pm -4.45pm.
