The U11A’s were very excited to compete indoors at the Sevenoaks School tournament last Friday. The annual event is always highly contested and demonstrates high quality netball in this area and further afield.
With fast moving games of only 8 minutes one way and rolling substitutions, the girls played under real pressure! Our first opponents were St Michael’s, a comfortable win of 5-0 eased the girls’ nerves but it was straight back on court with no rest. Holmewood House proved much tougher and the game was neck and neck throughout. The final whistle went at 3-3. Luckily, we then had a match off to rest. We then faced Ashdown House in the next match winning 6-1. Junior King’s, Canterbury were up next, a school we have never played before so we were unsure as to how they would play. This was by far our best match! The girls played some fantastic netball winning 6-2. A lot closer to home in the following match we played Walthamstow Hall. There have always been close scores between our schools but not on this occasion – The Granville girls were totally focussed, winning 6-2. At this point the team really began to believe they could win the tournament. Sevenoaks Prep were our next opponents. Again The Granville girls were totally focussed and won the game 6-3. The last match of the tournament was against Russell House. We had to win this match to win the tournament. With the shield in touching distance, some nerves set in. With a shaky start we went down 0-1 so the girls had to dig deep! A great team spirit and the drive to win enabled the girls to turn the score around and we won 4-2 making The Granville the Champions!
Well done girls!
