The school was decorated with union jack bunting, the union flag was proudly hoisted on the flagpole and every child and staff member arrived at school dressed in red, white and blue or royal regalia. Each child had designed, made and wore their own crown. Even the weather was reasonably kind to us!
It was party day, hooray! The school field was transformed. There were many themed games for the children to try their hands at as well as face painting. There was a visiting ice cream van, rugs were laid out for a Jubilee picnic and Mrs Howard, our Year 4 teacher, had made a splendid selection of superbly decorated cupcakes for each child and a large cake for the staff. It was time for a gathering around the blossom tree for a serious chorus of God Save the Queen and a photo shoot for the Sevenoaks Chronicle. A parade around the field followed and everyone was able to show off their costume. Each child was given a union flag, a sweetie bag in a union jack cup and a cup cake.
This was the start of half term and a celebratory weekend of Jubilee activites. Everyone agreed it was a wonderful way to commence proceedings!
