It was a very frosty Saturday morning when Granville’s U10 girls met for the Russell House annual netball tournament. Despite the bitter weather the girls were keen to get their
competition started. Our first game was against Walthamstow Hall. We settled quickly and began with some accurate passing of the ball up the court and our attackers consistently got the ball into our shooting area with relative ease. Both Venetia and Georgina were on form and with their precision shooting we were able to secure seven goals. It was a fantastic start to our tournament and we won the game 7-1.
In our second game we faced Sevenoaks Prep. They proved to be a stronger team and both sides were evenly matched. Maddie, Kitty and Annabel again had to work hard in the mid court and Eva did some fantastic intercepting to win us possession. Our defence were put under pressure and both Izzy and Lauren responded well, managing to prevent the opposition from scoring further goals. A great game that stretched us and we definitely played well enough to deserve our winning score of 2-1.
In our final game we faced a very strong looking St Michaels team. We scored a great first goal from distance, however St Michaels proved the stronger team. They were spot on with their shooting and were particularly strong in defence, denying us scoring opportunities. We unfortunately lost 2-6.
We were placed third in our section and were extremely unlucky not to get into play offs for third and fourth position. Instead, we faced Hilden Oaks in the play off for fifth and sixth position. We were the stronger of the teams and with Annabel and Kitty and Lauren playing well in defence we were able to keep play in our attacking end and score two
additional goals. We won this game quite convincingly 4-2 to secure fifth place overall out of eight school.
An exciting tournament in which we displayed some good netball skills, well done to all girls involved.
