The U11A rounders team enjoyed a day out at Holmewood House, playing in the IAPS Invitation tournament.
Sixteen teams from Kent, Surrey and Sussex took part in four sections.
Our first match against Brambletye was a little frustrating! Granville fielded, and Brambletye scored 8 rounders. In theory, a win was achievable, but fair to say, decisions made regarding running from our girls were not the best, and the big hitters didn’t really got going. Despite two lovely full rounders from Alice Buckley, we had to accept an 8 – 4 defeat. The second and third matches became crucial. The next match against Sutton Valence was much better! Zoe Brown and Georgia Johnston took two great catches. Lucy Bullock’s throw from backstop to Scarlet on first worked well, and we got them all out in 20 balls for 6 rounders. Our batters got their eye in, and scored 9. A good win. The final section match against Ashdown House was relatively easy, and Granville gave a master class display of fielding to allow them only 4.5 rounders. Zoe Brown took another fantastic catch. Our batters enjoyed scoring off a good percentage of balls, and scored 13.5.
Two wins and a loss put us in 2nd place, so through to the Plate semi-finals where we cruised a win against
Dulwich Prep School 10.5 to 5. It was good to be in the Plate final, now that the girls were playing so well.
However, Cumnor House played as well as us, and after 30 balls, the score was 8.5 each, so another 10 balls per team were delivered. We scored 1.5, but Cumnor House managed 2. The bravery award goes to Ellie MacKenzie who was stung on her finger, but refused first aid until after the match had ended, despite the pain!
Jemima bowled steadily and hit strongly. Kitty sprinted very fast around the track, Emily was a great back-up for first post and Sasha scored some good rounders with her left hand. Everyone played their part. Well tried girls.
