U11A won 15 – 12
Russell House School have produced some high quality netball teams in recent years, and always give Granville a good game. This match was no exception. Both teams started well, and competed for possession. At the end of the first quarter it was 4 – 3 to Granville. It was important therefore not to allow Russell House to turn over our centre passes in the second quarter. Accuracy and control was essential. Granville worked hard and kept possession. The ‘Eva to Florrie’ combination was particularly effective in our centre passes. Maddie intercepted one of their stray centre passes to allow us a scoring chance to pull ahead and lead 8 goals to 5 at half time.
After a team talk, Granville were going to continue to mark closely, and concentrate of passing to the free side of our players. Everyone was aware that Russell House could play themselves back into the game if we let them. The third quarter was the most impressive from Granville, and 7 more goals were scored to 3 from Russell House.
Going into the final quarter, Granville had a good lead and were 13 – 8 up. However, Russell House suddenly stepped up a gear, and took command of play, scoring 4 quick goals to just one of ours. The score at this point was 14 – 12 to Granville, and it looked like Russell House were going to at least equalise! Granville dug deep to hang on, and managed a final goal just before the match ended.
A fantastic game to watch, and two very good teams played netball to a high standard on another beautiful autumnal afternoon.
Well done to our shooters – Venetia, Cara and Georgina who all played well in the attacking circle; to Eva and Florrie who fed balls in well to the shooters and worked tirelessly in the middle; to Maddie for her excellent intercepting and to Lauren and Izzy who both made it extremely hard for Russell House to have their own way in their attacking circle. A great team effort!
