It was the U9 ‘A’ teams very first rounder’s match against Hilden Oaks and the girls were very excited indeed.  The umpires decided to play two separate games in which the teams could rotate positions so as to give the girls different fielding roles.

Game 1

Izzy opened the batting and what a start she gave us, as she struck the ball superbly and sprinted round to score a full rounder.  Telia was also able to hit the ball over the fielders heads in order to score a full rounder.  Grace, Lily, Eleanor and Heather also managed to connect well with the ball and score half rounders.  Emma was very unlucky to get stumped ‘out’ after a great hit.

We fielded fairly well after some initial mistakes were made and the girls definitely settled well into their positions.  Eleanor bowled nicely and Grace, Annabelle and Ava supported each other well at the post and in the deep.

Granville win.   Final Score – Granville 5   Hilden Oaks 4.5

Game 2

We batted well in the second game, however Hilden Oaks improved their fielding and accuracy of their throws to prevent us from scoring any full rounder’s from our hits. Grace and Emma were both able to score two half rounder’s each and Heather was unlucky not to score a full rounder from her impressive hit. We scored 2 ½ in total.

Lily took a while to get into her stride as our new bowler, but once she did, she bowled well and certainly prevented the opposition from scoring at least 3 full rounder’s.  Telia also

performed well at second base and managed to stump 3 of the Hilden Oaks girls out.  Ava and Heather were able to stop some well hit balls also.  Although the score does not

accurately reflect it, the girls fielded with greater understanding and teamwork in this

second game.

Hilden Oaks win.  Final ScoreGranville 2.5   Hilden Oaks 6.

Well done to all the girls on a very encouraging first match.
