The Granville School has an unrivalled record of results at the 11+ stage. A high number of girls gain scholarships and exhibitions to a variety of sought-after independent schools. Our pass rate for the Kent 11+ is over 90%. Girls are prepared for entry into both independent schools and state grammar schools. Staff work in close partnership with parents to help guide them and their daughters through the various different procedures for a wide range of schools. This ensures that the girls fulfil their potential and achieve places in schools where they will thrive.
How we prepare our pupils
Preparation for senior school exams at The Granville takes a bespoke approach. Open and honest communication between parents and staff enables us to create a programme of learning for each pupil that will best prepare them for their specific exams and scholarships. Our expertise allows us to advise and guide parents along this journey, starting in Year 4 with the first Senior Schools Meeting. In Year 5 we recommend for parents to begin visiting school and sharing their thoughts with us. Individual meetings take place throughout Year 5 and 6 with our Headmistress and regular contact takes place between parents and our highly experienced Senior School Transition Coordinator.
Although preparation for these exams starts long before this, perhaps even in Pre-School as pupils begin to develop the soft skills and confidence that will serve them so well later on, we begin in earnest in Year 5. The curriculum in Year 5 is specifically designed to support success in senior school exams, in all their guises. In the Summer Term we introduce additional exam preparation lessons, along with additional spacial reasoning sessions for girls sitting the Kent 11+. Holiday work is set for Year 5 girls throughout the year, to offer supplementary opportunities for revision. We use Atom Learning for pupils sitting the ISEB pre-test. In Year 6, the tailored approach continues with teachers differentiating work according to the exams girls will be sitting. Additional revision sessions are held for girls sitting the Sevenoaks School and Caterham exams that have particular requirements in terms of knowledge and skills. Individual sessions take place with subject specialists for those girls applying for Art, Drama, Music or Sports Scholarships and Exhibitions.
