Pre-School Learning

At the Granville, our Pre-School children learn in a light, bright and spacious, newly-built, Early Years’ block. In addition to their own dedicated outdoor learning area, the children also have access and regularly use the outside facilities.  This includes: a field, safely fenced playgrounds complete with tricycles and balance bikes, climbing frames, slides and climbing wall.  The Pre-School children regularly go into our onsite woodland where they take part in Forest School activities.  They also have access to all the School’s specialist teaching rooms, including the Junior Library, French Room, Computing Suite and Swimming Pool.

Literacy and Numeracy

Literacy and Numeracy are incorporated in play-based activities supported by a wealth of resources, including the use of computers, iPads and the interactive whiteboards. Creativity is nurtured through a variety of art and craft activities. Even at this young age, the children benefit from specialist teachers, who encourage the development of the children’s musical and ballet talents. Our Early Years children are included in any appropriate visits by the many artists, authors, sport’s people or performances.

Understanding of the World

The children’s knowledge and understanding of the world is developed using our woodland grounds and by walks in the local environment. Visits are also taken to local venues such as a local bluebell wood, British Wildlife Centre and Godstone Farm.

French

French is introduced in small group teaching through songs, games and rhymes. Social skills are fostered through activities which promote emotional, moral and spiritual development.

Physical Development

Physical development is encouraged using the adventure playgrounds, a wide variety of outside toys, as well as by the specialist teaching received in our gym, field, courts and swimming pool.

Wrap Around Care

All children have access to our before and after school care, which enables them to be looked after from 7:30am to 6pm. These sessions are run by our permanent staff, ensuring high quality personalised care.

“The school meets its aims to enable the pupils to fulfil their potential and cultivate their natural talents in a happy, caring environment. They have created a warm, supportive and close-knit community in which the pupils flourish and develop a real love of learning”
