This year, pupils from Reception to Year 6 will begin each Computing lesson with a short Online Safety and Digital Literacy discussion.
Technology is now a natural part of children’s everyday lives, so we believe online safety is best taught little and often, through regular conversations that develop as children grow.
For our younger pupils, discussions will begin with simple ideas such as making safe choices, being kind online and knowing which trusted adults they can turn to for help. As pupils progress through the school and experience greater digital independence, they will explore topics including passwords, gaming, digital footprints, social media, artificial intelligence, misinformation, privacy and digital wellbeing.
Our aim is not simply to teach children how to avoid online risks, but to help them become confident, thoughtful and responsible users of technology who know when to question something and when to ask for help.
To support these conversations beyond the classroom, we will also share regular Online Safety messages with families through the school newsletter, helping parents continue these important discussions at home.
