Early Years (Age 3-4)

Early Years (Age 3-4)

“The school meets its aims to enable the pupils to fulfil their potential and cultivate their natural talents in a happy, caring environment. They have created a warm, supportive and close-knit community in which the pupils flourish and develop a real love of learning”
Independent Schools Inspection 2017

The Granville pupils begin their school life in our Kindergarten classes, where the happiness and well-being of our boys and girls is catered for through a rich variety of play and learning activities in an inspiring environment. We use a thematic approach linked to the interests and development of the children. Qualified and experienced staff provide a caring, well organised and stimulating atmosphere where children’s natural curiosity is nurtured and encouraged. This enables them to develop more formal skills as they approach their Reception class when it becomes a girl’s only environment. The emphasis is on delivering a balanced curriculum which is based on the Early Learning Goals and then greatly enhanced! Children thrive through teaching which encourages and recognises their individual talents and achievements.

“From the earliest years onwards and in all subjects, academic attainment is considerably in advance of that expected at the relevant levels of age and stage of development”
Independent Schools Inspection 2017

Literacy and Numeracy are incorporated in play based activities supported by a wealth of resources, including the use of computers, iPads and the interactive whiteboards.
Creativity is nurtured through a variety of art and craft activities. Specialist teachers encourage the development of the children’s musical and ballet talents. Our Early Years children are included in any appropriate visits by the many artists, authors, sport’s people or performances.

The children’s knowledge and understanding of the world is developed through the use of our woodland grounds and by walks in the local environment. Visits are also taken to local venues such as a local bluebell wood, British Wildlife Centre and Godstone Farm.

French is introduced in small group teaching through songs, games and rhymes. Social skills are fostered through activities which promote emotional, moral and spiritual development.
Physical development is encouraged by the use of the adventure playgrounds, a wide variety of outside toys, as well as by the specialist teaching received in our gym, field, courts and swimming pool.

“Pupils are genuinely excited about learning. Throughout the school pupils display warm regard, care and concern for one another and for their teachers”
Independent Schools Inspection 2017

Our Kindergarten and Reception children are housed in a purpose-built block which opened in 2014. Outside facilities include a field, safely fenced playgrounds complete with tricycles and balance bikes, climbing frames, slides and a climbing wall. They also have access to all of the School’s specialist teaching rooms, including the Junior Library, French Room and Computing Suite.
All children have access to our before and after school care, which enables them to be looked after from 7:45am to 6pm. These sessions are run by our permanent staff, ensuring high quality personalised care.
